Just recently, we had the pleasure to link up with DJ SATO and ask a few questions about his career and what he’s been through to get to where he’s at.
Interviewer: Hi DJ SATO, it’s great to have you here. Can you introduce yourself for our readers?
DJ SATO: Hey, I’m Shane, a professional DJ and Producer based in Southern California. I specialize in Weddings, Corporate Events, and Private Parties, and I DJ’d over 130 events in 2023, including Landon Barker’s Halloween Party, Gunther Werks Corporate Party, and Yelp Inc. Events.
Interviewer: That’s impressive! How did you get started in music?
DJ SATO: I’ve always had a thing for music, and I got my first DJ controller in the Summer of 2018. I started off DJing for fun in my College dorm and slowly started to DJ actual events. In 2019 I DJ’d my first party ever on New Years Eve and that’s when I realized that this is something I want to pursue. I started DJing frat parties, clubs, and bars and realized that I wanted to expand my reach and that’s when I started making a name for myself and started posting videos of me DJing on social media. In 2023, I started taking it more seriously, and that’s when I started my own LLC for my business and since then I’ve been able to make it a full-time thing.
Interviewer: What inspired you to pursue music?
DJ SATO: The reason I started DJing was because I was tired of hearing about stories of bad DJs at events. I had been to more events where the DJ was bad rather than good so I wanted to be the person to make sure everyone has a good experience. From 2018 until now I am at a spot that I would have never imagined, and I want to keep going because I am able to serve my purpose on a larger scale. As for producing, I want to be able to create music that shows my style and imagination. Someone once told me that you can only go so far playing other people’s music and it’s time for me to take that next step.
Interviewer: Who are your musical influences?
DJ SATO: I don’t necessarily have one person that inspires me the most. I think for me just seeing everyone have their own unique style is what inspires me because there isn’t a wrong or right way to do music. Whether it is lyrically or through a melody, everyone is able to deliver a message to their audience.
Interviewer: What’s your biggest achievement as a musician so far?
DJ SATO: My greatest achievement is being able to make music full-time. Being able to do something I love for work is great and to keep building and reaching new heights is a blessing. Within that, one event that was a big achievement for me was DJing Landon Barker’s Halloween party in 2023. My next big goal is to DJ an event for an NBA or NFL player, so I’m definitely gonna make that happen this year.
Interviewer: Can you tell us about any new projects you have coming out?
DJ SATO: Working on my first project at the moment producing wise so be on the lookout for that. There’s no timetable as of now but it’s in the works. As for DJing I’ll probably have a couple mixes coming out for the Summer time.
Interviewer: What’s a typical day like for you?
DJ SATO: For me, I wake up and hit the gym. After that, I normally hop on a few client calls for inquiries and bookings. After that, I normally like to download music or work on a new beat, whichever one I’m feeling that day. In the afternoon is when I’ll record some content or create new playlists for upcoming events. At night I’ll watch normally watch the Laker game if they’re playing or kick it with some of my homies and after that, I’ll get ready for bed and write out a To-Do list for the upcoming day.
Interviewer: Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know about you?
DJ SATO: I’ve DJ’d at over 50 venues including The Classic Cat in LA, USC, Gunther Werks, and The Queen Mary. I have bookings all the way into 2025, so definitely blessed to be doing what I do and excited to see what’s in store.
