Today, we’re thrilled to have J Bandz, a rising rapper from South Bound Brook, New Jersey, joining us. J Bandz has been making significant strides in the music industry, captivating audiences with his distinct style and compelling lyrics. We’re here to dive into his background, creative process, influences, and plans for the future.
Q: J Bandz, thank you for being here with us today. Let’s kick things off by discussing your early relationship with music.
A: Thank you for having me. Honestly, music wasn’t my main focus during my early years. It wasn’t until around the age of 12 that I stumbled upon rapping as a fun hobby. I wasn’t actively seeking out new tunes back then. However, around 14, I began to engage more with music, and by 18, I decided to take rap seriously. Before that, I was heavily invested in football and even received multiple scholarships. But when my first song on SoundCloud hit 4k plays in a day, it changed my trajectory.
Q: Quite a journey indeed. How has your creative process evolved over time?
A: My creative process has definitely undergone some changes. Initially, I was more of a traditional writer, jotting down ideas. But when it comes to recording vocals, I prefer to freestyle and be in the moment. I find it adds authenticity to the music, capturing the energy of the moment.
Q: Authenticity is key. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
A: I’ve had various influences throughout my musical journey. One of my all-time favorites is Lil Wayne. His lyrical prowess always fascinated me. More recently, Juice WRLD became another artist I deeply resonated with. His vibe and unique style drew me in.
Q: Your latest track, “You,” has a personal touch. Could you elaborate on that?
A: Absolutely! “You” is a track centered around providing clarity and reassurance to my partner in our relationship. It’s about letting her know that we’re solid and that I’ll always be there for her. Expressing love and support is crucial in relationships, and that’s the essence of this song.
Q: It’s great to see that depth in your music. How do you engage with your fans and promote your performances?
A: When it comes to promoting my performances, I ensure the flyer is shared across all platforms. Additionally, I offer free tickets to the first few people who book. It’s a way to express gratitude to my fans and build excitement around the shows.
Q: Impressive approach! Have you encountered any standout moments or milestones in your career so far?
A: Absolutely! One of the highlights was nearly reaching 600,000 streams on a single track titled “Betta.” It was a significant milestone for me and a testament to the hard work I’ve dedicated to my music.
Q: Finally, as an independent artist, what advice would you give to others aspiring to enter the music industry?
A: The music industry can be challenging, but my advice would be to focus on finding your niche audience. It’s not about pleasing everyone but connecting with those who resonate with your sound and style. Additionally, investing in a home studio to refine your craft before splurging on studio time is crucial. Building a solid foundation is key.
