The locals affectionately called him “Farang,” meaning foreigner, a term he embraced with pride. The addition of “Yung” came from being one of the younger foreigners in a community often dominated by older expatriates.
Growing up in “MTZ 925 Coco county Gas Town,” as he fondly calls it, Yung Farang has always been surrounded by a vibrant music scene. He started making music in Martinez and quickly became known for his beats and lyrical style, which reflect both his Northern California roots and global experiences. His journey hasn’t been without challenges; one of the most significant hurdles was dealing with a close friend’s betrayal, which led to legal troubles and inspired his song “Narc Boy.” This track, created in just 24 hours upon his return to California, encapsulates the intensity of his emotions during that tumultuous time.
Musically, Yung Farang draws inspiration from a wide array of local Northern California artists and musicians he encounters on his travels. Even when language barriers exist, the universal language of music allows him to connect and vibe with artists worldwide. This global perspective enriches his music, making it resonate with a diverse audience.
Yung Farang’s purpose in pursuing music is clear: it gives him a sense of vitality and fulfillment. He describes the exhilaration of creating a hit song and playing it repeatedly until he’s ready to move on to the next project. His greatest achievement so far is his debut album, “Kayed Area,” which features a collection of amazing artists and showcases his talent as both a producer and performer.
Looking ahead, Yung Farang has several new projects in the pipeline, including collaborative tapes and solo ventures. He’s also busy with other aspects of his life, from caring for his animals—a Doberman, cat, goats, and quails—to tending to his cannabis plants.
